How is the match score calculated?
Tailr extracts the must-have requirements from the posting and checks how much of that list your résumé genuinely covers. It's an honest coverage measurement against one specific job, not a general "how good is this résumé" grade — the same résumé will score differently against different postings, and that's expected.
Does Tailr ever invent skills to raise my score?
No. Tailr only rephrases experience you already have to match the posting's language — it never fabricates a skill you don't hold. Anything the posting asks for that your résumé doesn't support shows up as a named gap instead. On Pro, a keyword is only added to your résumé after you explicitly confirm you actually have that skill.
What are the gaps?
Gaps are the must-have terms from the posting that your résumé currently doesn't support. Treat the list as your to-do list, roughly ranked by how central each item is to the role — closing or honestly addressing the ones near the top matters more than chasing every last one.
Why did my score change as I edited?
The score is recalculated live against the posting as you change your résumé, so any edit that adds, removes, or rephrases coverage of a requirement will move the number immediately. It's meant to reflect the résumé in front of you right now, not a one-time snapshot.
The posting asks for something my résumé doesn't show. What now?
Tailr asks rather than invents. Under Posting keywords in step 4, an Ask, don't invent card asks about each missing term: Have you used it? Answer Yes with one line about where and how, choose the role, and Tailr drafts one bullet from what you said — you read it before it's added. Numbers you didn't give become a [N] placeholder for you to fill in. Answer No and the term is marked as not true for you on that résumé. Your answer is used once to draft the bullet and isn't stored.
Can Tailr write my résumé in another language?
Yes. In step 3 (Design), choose Résumé language: English (US), English (UK) — British spelling such as "organised" — or Deutsch. Tailr writes the bullets and summary in that language and uses its section titles and dates (for example "Berufserfahrung" and "Jan. 2022 – heute"). Product and technology names stay as they are, and the keyword match works the same. More languages are coming.
Can Tailr help me message a recruiter or prepare for the interview?
Yes, on Pro and BYOK. On the Cover letter page, choose Outreach message for a short LinkedIn message or email (70–100 words) that opens with a detail from the posting and draws only on your real experience — no "I'm reaching out" filler. Choose Interview prep for a checklist built from the posting and your résumé: why you fit, likely questions with answer points from your own bullets, follow-ups, things to prepare to discuss honestly, and talking points. Numbers Tailr can't find on your résumé show as [N]. Neither ever changes your résumé.
How do I make a weak résumé stronger?
Open a saved résumé and choose Strengthen (paid plans). Tailr finds up to six of your vaguest bullets — ones with no result, a vague start like "Helped with…", or very little detail — and asks you one question about each: what you did, what changed, how big it was. Answer the ones you can; Tailr rewrites them only from your answers. You see each suggestion next to your line and choose Replace or Keep mine; your previous version is kept in History.
Can I re-tailor just one job on my résumé?
Yes. In step 4, under Posting keywords, use Re-tailor a role: pick the role and Tailr rewrites that role's bullets for the posting again, from your original bullets and with the same checks — no invented numbers or tools. You see the new bullets next to the current ones and choose Use these or Discard. If it can't improve them without inventing results, it tells you and leaves your bullets as they are.
Can the AI improve just one bullet?
Yes. In step 4, choose Edit and click a bullet. The Improve this line panel offers Stronger verb, Add a result and Make it shorter (paid plans can also type their own instruction). You see the suggestion first and choose to keep or discard it. Tailr never adds a number you didn't give it: where a result needs one, it writes a placeholder like [N]% for you to fill in with the real figure, and it flags anything your résumé doesn't support.
Can I tailor to a pasted description instead of a link?
Yes. If a posting is behind a login, blocked to crawlers, or you'd simply rather not share the link, paste the job description text directly and Tailr will tailor against that instead.
