Install it in three steps
- Add it from the Chrome Web Store. Click Add to Chrome above, then Add extension in the dialog Chrome shows.
- Sign in to Tailr. Open tailr.uk/app in the same browser. The extension uses that session; it has no password of its own.
- Apply. In step 4, click Apply next to a résumé. The posting opens and the extension is ready to fill it with that résumé. You can also open the extension from the toolbar on any application page and choose a résumé there.
What it does
On an application page the extension scans the form, attaches your tailored PDF, and answers what it can: your contact details from the résumé, the profile answers you saved in its options page, and the remaining résumé-based questions, which Tailr's server works out from your résumé. Demographic and equal-opportunity questions are never guessed. They use only what you set, and they default to "decline to self-identify". When a step needs you, the extension tells you which fields to check.
It never clicks Submit. Sending the application is always your decision.
Several jobs at once. In step 4, Auto-apply with extension opens each chosen job in its own tab, grouped together. Every tab fills with the résumé tailored for that job, one tab at a time, once it reaches the application form.
The permissions, and why it needs each one
When you add it, Chrome warns that the extension can "read and change all your data on all websites". That warning appears because applications live on hundreds of different job sites, so the Autofill button has to be able to load on any page. The extension only reads a page's form when you click Autofill. It sends nothing about the pages you browse, and the only server it talks to is Tailr's.
storage | Saves your autofill profile and remembered answers on your device. |
|---|---|
activeTab + scripting | Let the toolbar's Autofill this page run on the tab you're looking at, when you ask it to. |
tabGroups | Opens the jobs you choose with Auto-apply with extension as one named tab group. It reads nothing from your tabs. |
| Access to tailr.uk | Loads your account and résumés, and asks Tailr's server for answers to résumé-based questions. |
| Runs on the pages you visit | Puts the Autofill button on application pages. It acts only when you click it. |
Exactly what is stored, what is sent and what never leaves your browser is set out in the extension privacy policy.
Troubleshooting
"Blocked by your administrator" or no Add button. Work and school computers often run managed Chrome, where your organisation decides which extensions can be installed. Ask your IT administrator to allow the Tailr extension, or install it on a personal Chrome profile.
The Autofill button doesn't appear. Reload the application page after installing. If the form sits inside a frame, the button appears on the main page and still fills the form. You can also open the extension from Chrome's toolbar (the puzzle-piece icon) and choose Autofill this page.
It says you're signed out. Open tailr.uk/app in the same Chrome profile (sign in if asked), then try again. The extension keeps its own sign-in across browser restarts and updates; it ends only when you sign out of Tailr, after 90 days unused, or when you remove the extension.
Uninstall and remove your data
Right-click the Tailr icon in Chrome's toolbar and choose Remove from Chrome, or remove it from chrome://extensions. Removing the extension deletes everything it stored on your device. Your résumés and account stay on Tailr until you delete them from your account settings.
